ST. THOMAS, V.I. - V.I. Superior Court Magistrate Carolyn Herman Purcell found probable cause to move forward on assault and related charges against Desie Henry.
Henry, 46, of Estate Smith Bay, is charged with two counts of third-degree assault and one count of disturbance of the peace stemming from an Oct. 18 incident at Estate Nadir.
According to the probable cause fact sheet filed by Det. Shikima Rhymer, Henry and another man got into an argument. Henry went to his vehicle and returned with a long black and blue machete and swung it towards the victim, hitting him in the head with the flat side of the machete, then struck him on one of the hands with the cutting edge of the blade. On several different occasions, Henry also threatened to shoot the victim in the face and chest.
On Dec. 19, police issued a Wanted Poster and on Wednesday, police arrested Henry. His bail was set at $25,000.
At his advice-of-rights hearing Thursday, Purcell doubled Henry’s bail and allowed him to be released by posting 20 percent.
Henry’s arraignment, at which he will formally answer to the charges, is slated for Jan. 5, 2017.
Henry has an extensive criminal record dating back to 1988. |
